Finding Freedom in Your Yoga Practice
With Gena Rho Smith, Clinical Somatic Educator
Sunday, 1/28, 2:30-5:00 pm, $35 ($40 at the door)
Please preregister. Space limited.
This workshop will focus on learning how to move with a new sense of ease and awareness throughout your yoga practice. The feeling of restriction or pain is a message that our brain is stuck in a pattern or we have a blind spot. This blind spot of awareness is referred to as sensory motor amnesia. Learn the specific neuroscience-based movement method of Thomas Hanna to release the brains hold on muscle contraction, freeing your body and yoga practice.
The emphasis will be on our experience from within, slowly feeling your way into alignment that is true for your body. Releasing tension, restriction and pain, opens us to more movement of energy, prana (life force) and to our full potential.
The workshop will include some very basic yoga poses before and after the somatic explorations, giving students a clear embodied example of how Hanna's work can help deepen the experience in each pose. Appropriate for beginner and experienced students.
